We are delighted to welcome back Easington Colliery from England, defending Champions and current Scottish Champions Whitburn and, for the first time to our Contest, Downshire Brass Band from Northern Ireland.

The Contest is held in the Concert Hall in Troon on Saturday 23rd August with the draw taking place at 9.30am with the first Band taking to the stage and ready to play at 10.30am.

Each Band will be playing a programme of entertaining concert items lasting no longer that 20 minutes, and must feature an item of classical Orchestral music arranged for Band, which makes for a great day out for not only the competitors, but for the general public as well.

The Musical Adjudicator will be announced on the day of the event, the Visual Adjudicator will be former Police Inspector Iain Shaw from Ardrossan.

South Ayrshire Council continues to give tremendous support to Dalmellington Band to ensure that one of Scotland’s top events comes back to Troon each year and we are delighted with that support, financial and other.

This support has enabled us to increase the Prize fund again – raising all but the first two placings by £50 as well as providing a new award, the Dalmellington Junior Band Trophy, for the Best Flugel Horn Player.

South Ayrshire Councillor Peter Convery will present the prizes this year.

Last year the top prize of £2,500 was won by Whitburn who this year are aiming for their 5th successive victory.

Admission to the Concert Hall is £5 for adults with £3.50 concession. Tickets are available at the door.
